Our Goals and Objectives

A.

Develop recommendations to the City Commission in support of Delray Beach schools concerning local, district, and State issues.

1. Serve as liaison between the School Board of Palm Beach County, area schools, and the City Commission.
2. Monitor School Board meetings and workshops and provide a short summary and/or presentation at the monthly Board meetings and City Commission, as needed.
3. Monthly, provide a written or oral report on each Board members school/SAC.
4. Annually, conduct al review and compilation of SAC issues/concerns/opportunities and report to the City Commission with implications to the Education Boards goals and objectives.
5. Track, measure, and understand student population shifts and their effects on performance at Delray Schools by annual review and analysis of the Gold Reports and FCAT scores.
6. Monitor local, State and Federal legislation/issues; report to Board/Commission, as needed.
7. With PBC School Board staff, conduct ongoing discussions on their 5-Year Capital Improvement Plan and provide comments to the City Commission, as needed. Advocate for Plumosa K-8 School of the Arts Program at the former Atlantic High School site.
8. Advocate for appropriate programs and funding to support Delrays student population.

B.

Promote a positive image of Delray Beach schools through continuous public relations efforts.

1. Annually, update the Education Board Pamphlet and distribute to the public, as needed.
2. Annually, present the goals and achievements of the Delray Beach Education Board to at least three businesses.
3. Promote Delrays schools through the Citys Public Information Officer, Neighborhood Advisory Council, and special events.
4. Quarterly, write columns on the Education Advisory Board and its role in the City for News for Neighborhoods and Great News from Delray Schools.
5. Annually, participate in and help promote the Greater Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce Education Auction in February.
6. Quarterly, arrange for a guest speaker for Spotlight on Education at one City Commission meeting.
7. Annually, conduct and co-host with the Chamber of Commerce a Principals Breakfast in September.

C.

Identify and attract local, State and Federal programs and grants in direct support of Delray Beach schools.

1. Regularly monitor Federal, State and foundation sources for K-12 grant funding.
2. Select Board point person to receive e-mail notices from the Florida Dept. of Education on funding opportunities and share this information with appropriate entities.
3. Communicate with Grants Office in Palm Beach County School District to determine their support of Delray Beach schools and share relevant information with appropriate entities.
4. Develop a community directory of all education based initiatives and programs serving the children of Delray Beach. Completed in 2008.

D.

Engage Community, business, and family participation in support of educational programs.

1. Annually, host a business partnership program such as Principal for a Day.
2. Annually, present Education Board Goals and Accomplishments to each Delray Beach School Advisory Council (SAC) and faculty.
3. Advocate for a comprehensive arts, physical education, and health and nutrition programs throughout our schools.
4. Create and host a parent involvement program on an annual basis.
5. Annually, encourage City and local businesses to implement Floridas Mentoring Initiative whereby employees devote one paid hour per week mentoring.
6. Continue to support existing community partnerships/programs including but not limited to: Digital Divide, City of Character, Carver Morning Program, Mayors Literacy Initiative, and Eagle Nest.
