Public Art Advisory Board

About the Board

On February 1, 2005, the Delray Beach City Commission adopted a public art ordinance, establishing the Public Art Advisory Board and setting aside 1.5% of Delray Beach capital construction projects over $200,000 for public art.

The seven-member board recommends, initiates, and oversees public art projects; establishes the direction for selection of artwork; and advises the City Commission as to policies regarding visual arts. Board members are appointed by the City Commission.

Projects include temporary, permanent, and educational site-specific installations in two and three dimensions from individuals or collaborators.


Purpose

Advise and make recommendations to the City Commission with respect to public art policy and related issues including, but not limited to, the selection, construction, and placement of public art in or on City rights-of-way and City-owned property.

Board Membership

The Board is made up of seven members, each appointed by the City Commission for a term of two years. If you wish to apply, please visit Boards and Committees to download an application.

Qualifications

Three seats on the Board must be filled by persons who are either an artist, architect, landscape architect, or engineer. Lay persons of knowledge, experience, and judgement who have an interest in public art shall make up the balance of the Board.


Board Members

Robert Currie

Robert Currie, A1A, is the founding principal of the architectural firm Currie Sowards Aguila Architects, located since its 1969 inception in Delray Beach, Florida. He received a Master in Architecture from Harvard University, Graduate School of Design in 1965 and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Minnesota in 1962. With sixty design awards to his credit, Mr. Currie is the firm's principal designer and responsible for projects through the design development phase. In 1990, he received the A1A Palm Beach Chapter's Award of Honor for Design for his contributions to architectural design. The firm was honored by A1A Florida as the Firm of the Year 2000. Mr. Currie received the prestigious Gold Medal Award in 2002 from the A1A Palm Beach Chapter in recognition of his contributions to the architectural profession. Mr. Currie's term expires on July 31, 2011.

Dana Donaty

Dana Donaty was born and raised in New Jersey. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1988. Having the opportunity Dana spent next few years traveling and exploring art in Mexico and South America. In1990 Dana moved to Los Angeles, California where she pursued her art career. Between odd jobs she began to take mural commissions and continued to paint on canvas. In the early 1990s Dana moved to London, England. Her first job in England was not art related, but it did have creative outlets and it was then she decided to concentrate her efforts exclusively on an art career. She began to build her career by working with a handful of designers and private clients. As a reputation for her unique talents grew, her clientele expanded to include a client base in England and Europe, which allowed her to be able to combine her two passions, art and travel. After 12 years in England, Dana relocated, to what she considers to be her second home, in Florida. Shortly after arriving Dana Donaty Designs was invited through ASID to participate in the American Lung Association Showhouse in West Palm Beach. Her company has participated in two Red Cross Showhouses, completed several public art projects and various residential and commercial commissions. Many of her projects have been widely published in national and international publications. Danas work is influenced by great art, architecture and culture in England, Europe and America. She continues to integrate diverse mediums and experimental techniques in her murals, canvas work, faux finishes and art projects. Since moving to Florida she has been very active in the arts community, local arts programs, collaborating with artists, ASID, continuing education and has recently been appointed to the Delray Public Advisory Arts Board. Ms. Donaty's term expires on July 31, 2012.

Michiko Kurisu

Michiko Kurisu has been a resident of Delray Beach since 1999. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Brown University, with studies in photography at Rhode Island School of Design. An artist and professional photographer, Kurisu received a Palm Beach County Cultural Council Artist-in-Residency Grant in 2006, and in 2008 Kurisu was commissioned to create the site-specific, light-based installation currently under the Atlantic Avenue bridge in Delray Beach. Ms. Kurisu's term expires on July 31, 2012.

Richard McGloin

In the 19 years Rich McGloin has resided in Delray Beach he has been involved in numerous civic projects. Chairman to the task force to define and establish the Art in Public Places ordinance, board member on the Downtown Development Authority, Master Plan Implementation Committee, Pineapple Grove Main Street, Downtown Merchants and Business Association, Old School Square Center Services Task Force, Palm Beach Photographic Center, Master Plan Design Guidelines Committee. One of the founding members of the Pineapple Grove Art Walk project coordinating the art works on loan which have been displayed on Pineapple Grove Way. Mr. McGloin's term expires on July 31, 2011.
