The cost of a business tax is $ 149.10 for each type of business.  There are a few exceptions, however.  The exceptions can be viewed by downloading Business Tax Receipt Category Listings and Fees. 

All receipts are issued for a period of 1 year on a fiscal year basis that begins on October 1 each year, with all business tax's expiring on September 30th the following year.

The business tax is discounted on April 1st to $ 74.55 which is half the scheduled fee for businesses beginning in the middle of the fiscal year.

Services or businesses that are located in other cities, but conduct work within the City of Delray Beach (e.g., lawn services, taxi companies) are not required to have a license from Delray Beach, however, they must register for $10.00 with the business taxoffice.

 SAFETY INSPECTION

A separate one-time fee of $25.00 will be assessed for inspecting the premises of a new commercial business to insure the health, safety and welfare of the public.  The inspection includes examining fire extinguishers the marking and emergency lighting of exits and electrical wiring and outlets.

PALM BEACH COUNTY BUSINESS TAX RECEIPT ALSO REQUIRED

All businesses and professional offices in Delray Beach must also obtain a business tax receipt from Palm Beach County, 501 S. Congress Ave., Delray Beach, (561) 355-2272.  Applicant must first apply at the City of Delray in order to obtain zoning approval before applying for the County business tax receipt.  The applicant will receive a City of Delray Beach temporary receipt, which will be evidence of zoning approval.
