HOME OCCUPATIONS
Home-based businesses are permitted, if the home is strictly for phone, mail, and bookkeeping work. Not permitted is any business which employs people or attracts customers or vehicular traffic to the home. The home-based business must be so unobtrusive that the residents are unaware of its existence.
If you are applying for a home-based Business Tax Receipt, a Home Occupation Affidavit (69k) signed by the business owner must be submitted with your application.
EXEMPTIONS
The City of Delray Beach offers certain exemptions to charitable, educational and religious institutions, disabled honorably discharged veterans, un-remarried spouses of disabled veterans, other disabled individuals, widows with minor dependents, and certain individuals 65 or older, as authorized by State law.
A Business Tax Receipt is still required to conduct business and will be issued free or at a reduced tax rate.
If you think you qualify for an exemption, please contact Business Tax's at (561) 243-7209 to discuss the specific requirements and the amount of the exemption
PEDDLER BUSINESS TAX RECEIPT
A peddler is one who travels from place to place carrying goods for sale, or making sales or deliveries.
Each peddler must complete a peddler's application with the City of Delray Beach.
A $24.00 criminal history search must be requested by the peddler through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement before a peddler's business tax receipt may be issued.
The peddler's license is $24.15 for each day business is conducted.
CONTRACTOR REGISTRATION
All contractors must register with the Business Tax Division before applying for building permits. The application may be downloaded here, business tax receipt/contractor registration.
Requirements for contractor registration are almost as varied as the contractor categories. In all cases, current copies of the Palm Beach Certificate of Competency and/or Florida state license must be supplied to the city. The FAX number to renew contractor information is (561) 243-7221.
It is not necessary to supply Delray Beach with insurance certificates except for a one time workman's compensation submittal. Fees are not charged contractors located outside the municipality.
