Flood Zone Information

Delray Beach is a participant in the National Flood Insurance Program, which is a Federal program that allows property owners and renters to purchase federally backed flood insurance. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was established by Congress in 1968, to help communities implement floodplain management measures to help reduce flood risks to new developments. FEMA prepares the Flood Insurance Rate Map that shows the flood zone areas for each community. The 100-year flood is the national standard on which flood insurance requirements are based.

Information on Flood Zones for property within the city limits of Delray Beach can be obtained by e-mailing our office at PermitsLicenses@MyDelrayBeach.com with the following information:

  •  Address of the property
  • Subdivision name where the property is located
  • Contact Person's Name
  • Contact Person's e-mail address or phone number.

If any of the above information is missing, the Flood Zone information may not be provided.

The Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) shows the various flood zones for Delray Beach.  It shows the areas that may be subject to inundation by flood waters (flood hazard area) from any source, and the areas not considered to be in a hazardous area.   Insurance agents, lending institutions & community officials use the FIRM to determine the location of a specific property and the corresponding flood zone.  It will determine whether flood insurance is required.  Community officials use the information to administer flood plan management regulations.  NOTE:  if your property is located outside the City Limits of Delray Beach, contact the Palm Beach County Flood Zone Office at (561)233-5374.

If you would like to contact FEMA directly, the regional office for South Florida is located in Atlanta, Georgia.  Their phone number is (770)220-5400, or visit the FEMA web site.  Their mailing address is:   FEMA Region IV, Gulf Oil Building, 1371 Peachtree Street, NE, Suite 736, Atlanta, Georgia  30309. While you are visiting the FEMA web site, be sure to use their site for links to storm watches, the FEMA flood map store, the photo library, and more.    Also visit the Palm Beach County Disaster Preparedness web site that will give you additional information about preparing for and reacting to natural disasters.
