Rental Housing Inspection and Training Programs
The Rental Housing Inspection and Training Program is located in the Community Improvement Department and is committed to neighborhood revitalization and rental property improvement.
Landlords
We will help you improve your rental property by providing educational and technical assistance for tenant screening and selection, property maintenance requirements to comply with city standards and opportunities to prevent or reduce illegal activities on your properties.
Tenants
While the property owner is responsible for maintaining the property, you are also responsible for certain things and may be liable if you don't fulfill your obligations. Therefore, we will offer training pertaining to your rights and responsibilities.
Rental Property Inspections
Random rental housing inspections throughout the city began in January 2006. Landlords are contacted in advance and advised to notify their tenants of the scheduled inspection date. A thorough dwelling unit inspection is conducted utilizing the Standard Housing Code. The landlord is notified of any violations and given time (depending on severity) to correct them.
Training Seminars

Landlord and tenant training seminars are free and will be held on a regular basis throughout the year at various locations. They will be held in mornings and evenings to accommodate participants' schedules. Training seminars will be announced as they become available.
