Administration The Administration Division provides the administrative, managerial, budgetary, logistic and planning activities for departmental operations. Activities include approval and processing of all purchases for the department; coordination and supervision of the preventive maintenance program of the fire and rescue apparatus fleet;coordination of all facility maintenance; and coordination and supervision of the communications systems for the department (cellular, digital, computer, and radio).
Emergency Management Activities of this program include preparation for, response to, recovery from and mitigation of any and all conditions, which threaten or adversely affect the public health, safety and/or security of the citizens and visitors of the City of Delray Beach.
The Fire Department is responsible for maintaining the City's Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan in accordance with County, State, and Federal guidelines. All City Departments are included in the development, writing and exercising of the emergency management plans related to disaster preparedness, response and recovery. City employees are provided training in a number of emergency management topics including: debris removal, disaster assistance, consequences of terrorism, hazardous materials incident response, and special event contingency planning.
Emergency Medical Services The EMS division is responsible for providing Pre-hospital Emergency Medical care and transportation for ill and injured residents and visitors in the City of Delray Beach. This is accomplished through well trained Paramedics and EMT's, using state of the art equipment and medical protocols. Each shift is provided with an EMS supervisor, who provides direction for all field personnel and assures high quality response to incidents. All medical reports are reviewed by the EMS supervisor providing day to day Total Quality Management (TQM). Public Access Defibrillation and CPR programs have been very successful with nearly seventy AED's strategically placed throughout the City. We are available Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 11:30 am and 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm for complementary Blood Pressure Screenings. Residents are encouraged to stop by their local fire station to access this service.
Fire Safety The Fire Safety Program provides proactive, educational and protective services to reduce fire losses and fire related injuries, and other accident prevention awareness programs throughout the community. This is accomplished through fire safety inspections of commercial, industrial and multi-family residential occupancies and through outreach public education programs, as well as appropriate code application in new construction and redevelopment projects.
Operations The activities of the Operations Division include: providing advanced or basic life support and transportation for medical emergencies; confining and extinguishing structure, vehicle, brush and trash fires; and special operations such as hazardous materials incident control, underwater search and rescue, confined space rescue, vehicle extrication and technical rescue. The Division also performs inspections of the municipal water supply system and provides public education in CPR, drowning prevention, fire safety and hazardous material training.
Support Services The Support Services Division provides Budget/Financial Management and Departmental Payroll, E.M.S. Transport and Fire Alarm Revenue and Billing, Records Management, Recruitment, Clinical Services Unit, Administrative Support, and Volunteer Program. Budget/Financial Management provides monitoring all Departmental expenditures, approval and processing of all purchases, development and administration of the Department's annual budget. E.M.S. transport revenue management provides invoicing, posting payments, filing insurance claims and researching problems, monthly reports and analysis of revenue. The Clinical Services Unit provides annual physicals for Fire and Police personnel, a fitness/wellness program and walk-in medical care for all City employees.
