Bike Helments - Wear a Helmet! According to the National SAFE KIDS Campaign®, more than 350,000 kids in the United States went to the emergency room in 1997 because of the injuries they received while riding their bikes. By wearing a helmet every time you ride your bike, you can reduce your risk of serious head injury by as much as 85 percent! And bike helmets are cool! They come in all shapes and colors! To stay safe, make sure your helmet fits comfortably and snugly, but not too tight. It should sit on top of your head in a level position and should not rock back and forth. And always fasten the straps!.
Water Safety - If you like to "play it cool" at the pool, the beach, or at a lake, pond, or river, here are a few simple rules to remember: It's a good idea to take swimming lessons. Check with your local YMCA, city or town hall, or health club for information about lessons. Always swim with a grown-up. Follow the posted rules and listen to the lifeguard. The lifeguard is on duty to help you stay safe and have fun. The pool is not a cafeteria! Don't eat or chew gum while you are swimming. It could make you choke! No horseplay! Running, pushing, or shoving other people can cause serious injuries. Get out of the water immediately if you hear thunder or see lightning.
