1. How do I get to the Community Center, Veterans Park or Pompey Park?
Directions from I-95:
Community Center: I-95 to Atlantic Avenue going east, go approximately 11 blocks to NW 1st Avenue (the Tennis Center will be on your left), turn left on NW 1st Avenue and just behind the tennis courts you will see the Community Center on your left. The address is 50 NW 1st Avenue. (561) 243-7250
Veterans Park: I-95 to Atlantic Avenue going east to NE 7th Avenue, the traffic light just before the Intracoastal bridge. Turn left on NE 7th Avenue, go one block to the stop sign and turn right on NE 1st Street. Make the right into the parking lot of Veterans Park. The address is 802 NE 1st Street. (561) 243-7350
Pompey Park: I-95 to Atlantic Avenue going east to NW 12th Avenue, turn left on NW 12th Avenue and go two blocks to NW 2nd Street. You will see the Pompey Park complex in front of you. The address is 1101 NW 2nd Street. (561) 243-7356
2. How much is the room rental at the Community Center and Pompey Park?
Room rental rates depend on the size of the room. A one-way room is $30.00, two-way room is $40.00, and three-way room is $60.00 (plus tax) for the first 3 hours. Additional hours are $20.00 per hour plus tax. A supervisor's fee of $25.00 per hour is charged if rental is not during scheduled center hours. 3. Are dogs permitted on the beach or in any city park?
Dogs and other pets are prohibited in all city parks, including the Municipal Beach and Atlantic Dunes Park. The exception to this is the use of the sidewalk of A1A. Please use a "doggie bag", located at various locations along the side walk to help keep the area clean. Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation has designated a Dog Park located in Lake Ida Park.
4. What are the hours of operation for the Community Center?
The Community Center is open Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 9:00 pm, Saturday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm and is closed on Sunday.
5. May I reserve the whole park for a function?
No. Only the pavilion itself at Veterans Park, Pompey Park, Barwick Park, Orchard View Park and Atlantic Dunes Park is reservable. The rest of the park is open to the general public at all times.
6. If I reserve the pavilion, what do I do if there are people already there for the time I have reserved it?
Copies of the permit go to our Parks Maintenance Dept., Park Rangers and Police Dept. Bring a copy of the permit with you the day of your function. Show the other people your permit and if they refuse to leave, notify the Supervisor on Duty (if applicable) OR go into the Fire Station or Community Center and call the Police Department at (561) 243-7800.
7. May I have a night time event at any park?
No. All parks close at dusk.
8. May I set up chairs and/or a tent on the grass at Veterans Park?
Chairs, yes; tent, no. The poles of the tent may damage irrigation heads.
9. If I reserve the gazebo at Veterans Park, does this include the building near the gazebo?
No. You would need to contact Melissa Backus, the center supervisor at (561) 243-7350 or email Melissa at backus@ci.delray-beach.fl.us, to see if the center is available for the same date.
10. Where is the Municipal Marina located?
The Marina's address is 159 Marine Way, located west of the Intracoastal just south of the Atlantic Avenue Bridge.
11. How do I go about getting a slip at the Marina?
Slips at the Marina are currently on a waiting list, which has an indefinite cap. The monthly rate for dockage is $.70 per foot per day for live-aboard, with a 35' minimum and a 55' maximum. The monthly rate for non live-aboard is $.60 per foot per day. This includes water and electricity, rest room and shower facilities, a coin operated washer/dryer and a free ice machine.
As a rule, we do not take transients unless there is a slip open at the time, and then only short-term (overnight or a few days). The cost for a transient slip is a flat rate of $50.00 per night.
You need to come in to fill out an application, or it can be faxed, mailed or e-mailed to the prospective applicant which then needs to be returned to us. Applications can be received by calling Alberta Gaum-Rickard at (561) 243-7136 or email Alberta at gaum@ci.delray-beach.fl.us.
12. Does the Municipal Marina have a pump out station? What about a fuel pump?
The Marina does have a coin operated (quarters) pump out station located at the north end of the Marina. It costs $2.00 per 3 minutes. The marina does not have a fuel pump.
13. Do we have any children's activities?
Parks and Recreation offers an Out of School Program which includes After School, Holiday Camps, and Summer Camp. Please check the Programs and Activities Page for additional current programs or classes available for children.
14. How can I register my child for the Out of School Program?
Registration is ongoing, Monday through Friday from 9:30 am - 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the Delray Beach Community Center, 50 NW 1st Ave.
Parents (Delray Beach Residents Only) are required to bring to registration:

18. How do I find out more information on Beach Parking Permits?
Beach Parking Permits can be used at Sandoway Park, Anchor Park, Atlantic Dunes Park and Ingraham Park parking lots. Both Delray Beach residents and non-residents can purchase a permit. However, Ingraham Park is for Delray Residents Only. Parking lots are open from 8:00 am to dusk. Permits can be purchased by visiting the Utility Billing Cashier (561-243-7123)located in City Hall or visit the Beach Parking Permits Page for additional information.
19. Are picnics and barbecue grills allowed on the beach? Are grills allowed in a park?
Picnics are permitted on the beach, however glass containers, alcoholic beverages and barbecue grills/fires are prohibited on the beach as well as in any city park.
20. Can I have a wedding on the Beach?
Weddings are not allowed in the lifeguard supervised areas of the Municipal Beach or Atlantic Dunes Park. However, Atlantic Dunes Pavilion is located at the end of the elevated walkover at Atlantic Dunes Park and available to rent. 21. How do I find out more information on boat storage along the beach?
Boat storage on the beach is permitted for sixty resident's sailboats less than twenty feet in length to be launched from shore, i.e., Hobie Cat, Prindle, Nacra, Sunfish, etc. Permits and additional information can be obtained by calling Gail Vanhove at (561) 243-7257 or email Gail at vanhove@ci.delray-beach.fl.us.
22. How many public beaches are within Delray City Limits?
There are two public beaches located in Delray Beach: the Municipal Beach centered at Atlantic Avenue and Atlantic Dunes Park.
23. Is fishing allowed on the beach?
Fishing is prohibited in the lifeguard supervised areas of the beach open for public use.
24. Is nudity allowed at the beach?
Nudity and/or partial nudity, topless sunbathing, is prohibited.
25. What is a man-o-war and is it dangerous?
A man-o-war is a type of jelly fish that produces a painful sting on contact. This can last anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. The sting may produce swelling, redness, and trace the outline of the tentacle where it contacts the skin. Allergic reactions are possible but not likely and includes difficulty breathing, dizziness, and extreme pain. If you experience a man-o-war sting, please do not hesitate to contact a lifeguard on duty.
26. What is sea lice and is it dangerous?
Sea lice is the larvae stage of the Linuke Jelly Fish. Sea lice season generally runs from mid April to mid July. Sea lice stings can cause an uncomfortable itchy rash with some individuals, which can last several days. Some side effects/symptoms of sea lice include fever and nausea. Contact your pharmacist (or doctor) for over-the-counter anti-itch remedies.
27. How do you rent a Cabana or beach umbrella?
Locate a vacant Cabana or chair and sit down. The Cabana person on duty will approach you with rental information.
28. What is the best method for removing tar from my feet or body?
Tar can be removed by using any oil-based sun tan lotion or baby oil.
29. What's the telephone number of Aqua Crest Pool?
The phone number for Aqua Crest Pool is (561) 278-7104. It is located adjacent to the Old Atlantic High School on Seacrest Blvd. just south of Gulfstream Blvd. and is a Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department facility.
