Veterans Park Recreation Center, also referred to as the Adult Center, was built in 1966-1967 to meet the growing recreational needs of the senior citizens of Delray Beach. It is complete with kitchen facilities, lounge area with television, restrooms with baby changing tables, and a library. A large meeting room is available for club meetings, birthday parties, weddings and classes.
The exterior grounds consist of 7 lighted lawn bowling courts and 16 lighted shuffleboard courts, all of which have been renovated, including the addition of lights for night time play. A patio with picnic tables and grills nearby is available to anyone wishing to enjoy the scenery and the breezes along the Intracoastal Waterway. Paved paths lead throughout the park, including to the gazebo where concerts are often held. An extensive playground facility that was designed by the children of Delray Beach and built entirely by volunteers is located in the park. The playground is popular among school groups and summer camps. Vending machines, drinking fountain, and restrooms are also available.
The facility offers several clubs with year round meetings; lawn bowling, shuffleboard, chess, and senior bridge. Other activities include dance, yoga, tai-chi, bridge and arts & crafts classes. Day trips to South Florida Museums, parks, boat and shopping trips are also popular outings.
For more information on programs and classes offered at Veterans Park, visit the Programs and Activities page.
The recreation center building can be rented for almost any type of event such as a wedding, wedding rehearsal, anniversary party, business meeting, birthday party, class celebration, graduation, reunion, church function, dance or workshop. You cannot have any event where you charge an admission fee or take monetary donations. You must be at least 18 years old to rent the facility. Private groups and non-Delray Beach residents are welcome. Renting is based on availability. Call Melissa Backus at (561) 243-7350 for procedures to rent, policies, pricing or to make reservations. Or Visit our Permit and Rental page to download a Permit Application.
