Pompey Park Athletic Programs are in need of Volunteer Coaches, Equipment Coordinators and More

The Delray Beach Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting volunteer head coaches, assistant coaches, equipment managers and general staff to assist with several athletic programs during their upcoming 2011 seasons.  Each of the youth athletic programs are based out of Pompey Park, 1011 NW 2nd Street.

The Youth Athletic Programs searching for volunteers include:
• Delray Beach Track Club  (Feb - July)
• “Let it Fly” Flag Football (July - Aug)
• Delray Blazers and Lady Blazers Youth Travel Basketball (Jan - Aug)
• Delray Rocks Youth Football and Cheerleading (June - November)
• Girls Volleyball (January-December)

All volunteers must be at least 19 years or older to assist with boys and girls youth athletic programs.  Head Coaches are required to be at least 25 years old. All applicants interested in volunteering must apply to the City of Delray Beach (application for volunteers is accepted year round).  In addition, applicants must complete a background check.  Head and assistant coaches must know the rules and concepts in the various sports. Please note that Delray Rocks Volunteer Coaches will be required to maintain additional certifications through the Pop Warner Treasure Coast Football Conference. The conference is held in Jupiter by TCFC officials and attendance is mandatory in order to be a coach.

Mangrove Park Boat Ramp, located at 1211 South Federal Highway, will be closed for repairs starting Monday, October 17th for approximately 90 days.
Delray Municipal Beach and Atlantic Dunes Park are lifeguard supervised from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, 365 days per year.
The City of Delray Beach Parks and Recreation Department has boat storage spaces available on the north end of the beach for sixty (60) sailboats
The City of Delray Beach Parks Maintenance Division applied for and received two $5,000 Public Land Grants
Pompey Park Pool was awarded the Ride the Wave to Safety 2007 award from the American Red Cross for placing first, out of all of the Aquatic Facilities in Palm Beach County.
