Protecting and maintaining the unique character of the City's Architectural past is another chief focus area of the Department.
A full-time Historic Preservation Planner provides support functions to the public and boards on matters relating to HISTORIC PRESERVATION. Within the City there are five geographic areas which have been designated as historic districts and twenty-one properties which are individually listed on the Local Register of Historic Places.
Six properties on the Local Register of Historic Places are also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Other Historic Preservation activities include:

Reviewing proposed exterior changes to buildings and sites located in historic districts through the Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) process.

Participating in the Florida Master Site Survey Program which provides an inventory of buildings over 50 years of age; Reviewing applications for eligibility for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places;

Designating properties to the Local Register of Historic Places; Maintaining a Historic Marker Program for properties which are designated on the Local Register of Historic Places; and,

Participating in the Delray Beach Historical Society. |
