Community Response Division

Community Response Task Force

The main responsibility of the Community Response Task Force is to work narcotics related violations and violent crime cases primarily in the designated Weed and See area. The task force conducted numerous search warrants, narcotics buy-bust operations, video-buy operations, warrant sweeps, and narcotics reverse stings. The Task Force works closely with area agencies including the Boynton Beach Police Department, Boca Raton Police Department, Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Clean and Safe Unit

The Clean and Safe Unit consists of four Officers who are assigned to the area of NW/SW 5th Ave. (on West Atlantic Avenue) east to A1A. These officers patrol the downtown entertainment area to ensure the safety of the citizens enjoying the clubs, restaurants, and shops that Atlantic Avenue has to offer. These Officers work closely with the West Atlantic Redevelopment Coalition, Community Redevelopment Authority, Delray Merchants Association and The City’s Code Enforcement Department. Several operations were conducted on Atlantic Avenue, such as bar checks, robbery surveillance, and panhandling.

Special Operations Section

The Special Operations Section is tasked with coordinating all of the security and staffing needs for over 4 dozen special events that the City of Delray Beach sponsors each year. From small block parties to events that close all of Atlantic Avenue, as well as St. Patrick’s Day and Holiday Parades and large scale tennis tournaments. This section must insure that for the public’s safety, each event is sufficiently staffed. Members of this section also coordinate dignitary protection when those of this caliber come to town and handle logistical issues for PD personnel in the aftermath of natural disasters (hurricanes). They also maintain a fleet of over 150 emergency response vehicles that must be available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Another aspect of this section is the court liaison. This person is tasked with delivery of subpoenas (nearly 9000 a year) to all officers. This guarantees the officers presence in court or in deposition to assist in the prosecution of criminal suspects and traffic offenders.

Motorcycle/Traffic Unit

The Motorcycle/Traffic Unit is comprised of four Officers and one Sergeant. The primary objective of the Officers in this unit is to address traffic related issues and complaints. These Officers also initiate and respond to traffic enforcement projects in addition to providing analytical information, presentations and demonstrations for citizens.

Community Service Officers

Community service Officers assist sworn police Officers in handling traffic issues, delayed crime and other activities in order to make officers more available to respond to in-progress situations. The Community Service Officers (CSO) are also assigned to various school crossing assignments at Plumosa, SD Spady, and Banyan Creek Elementary Schools.
