The City of Delray Beach and the Sandoway Discovery Center invite the public to "Make a Difference by Volunteering" at the 31st Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup coordinated by Keep Palm Beach County Beautiful, Inc. in Palm Beach County. In an effort to promote a cleaner and safer beach environment, the City of Delray Beach and the Sandoway Discovery Center will participate in this worldwide campaign that enlists volunteers to collect trash and debris from our the Delray Beach Municipal Beach to ensure it remains a world class beach.
This year's event will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016, from 8:00 am until 10:00 am, at the Sandoway Discovery Center, 142 South Ocean Boulevard. Residents and visitors are encouraged to attend this free event and join in this global effort. Supplies will be provided and participants are able to earn community service hours.
Registration forms can be downloaded, filled out completely, and turned in the morning of the cleanup. Additional forms are available will be at the Sandoway Discovery Center; Delray Beach City Hall, 100 NW 1st Avenue; and the Delray Beach Community Center, 50 NW 1st Avenue; or may be obtained by contacting the Sandoway House at (561) 274-7263, SandowayHouse@bellsouth.net, OR Danielle Beardsley with the City of Delray Beach Parks and Recreation Department at (561) 243-7277 or by E-mail at email@example.com.
The Ocean Conservancy is encouraging volunteers to use their data collection app, Clean Swell that can be used on any smart phone – Apple or Android. It can be easily downloaded for free from your App store on your phone. Volunteers can use this APP to record what types of trash they are picking up during the International Coastal Cleanup. Your submission will be tracked through the GPS on your phone and we can obtain the data for Palm Beach County from the Ocean Conservancy.

The International Coastal Clean Up is the world's largest one day volunteer event of its kind. Last year, approximately 400,000 volunteers from over 100 countries took part in this effort, resulting in the collection of more than six (6) million pounds of trash.
