The Delray Beach Police Department is proud to be state accredited through the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc. (CFA).  The department was initially awarded accredited status by CFA on July 19, 2004, and subsequently achieved re-accredited status after undergoing successful assessment processes in 2007, 2010 and 2013. The department is reviewed every three years and is seeking its fourth re-accreditation in 2016.

To retain accredited status, DBPD will be reviewed by a team of three assessors representing the CFA.  These assessors are law enforcement practitioners from similar agencies. Team leader Capt. David Pate from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Nicki Hunt from the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office and Lt. Michael O’Reilly from the Naples Police Department will be arriving on Tuesday, August 23 to examine all aspects of the department’s policies and procedures, management operations and support services.  The assessment will conclude on Thursday, August 25.  The assessors will verify that DBPD has met the commission’s requirements of complying with approximately 260 law enforcement standards in order to receive re-accreditation.  Many of the standards are critical to life, health and safety issues. The accreditation program is a voluntary process used to maintain a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. Once the assessors complete their review of the agency, they report back to the full CFA, which will then decide if the department will receive re-accreditation.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency members and the public are invited to offer comments to the assessment team. A copy of the standards is available through the CFA’s website at www.flaccreditation.org.

For more information regarding CFA or for persons wishing to offer written comments about DBPD’s ability to meet the standards of accreditation, please write: CFA, P.O. Box 1489, Tallahassee, Florida 32302, or email to info@flaccreditation.org.
